Hibooth.com Usability Testing Report Hibooth.com is a new site, currently in beta, that is offering a virtual booth for individuals and companies to present their services/products. Founder Ping has asked me to perform the following tasks:

Tasks:

  1. Join as a business owner
  2. Invite other businesses
  3. Search and find certain business

Watch the usability test video:

Video summary and suggestions:

Overall look and feel:

  • Very clean, professional

Logo:

  • Clean logo, missing the “.com”
  • Tag line: Too small and also a bit ambiguous, needs some work.

Home page:

  • The home page contains a big image that has some text on top and bullet points. The text on top with the orange background is a bit too long, can be shortened to make the point more easily.
  • The bullet point should be benefits and not features.
  • The image should be replaced with a real text, better for SEO and more practical for future editing
  • The button on the left doesn’t really look like a button, should be replaced with a button that’s more clickable and should say “Register
  • Now” or some sort of “call to action”
  • All text on the site: if it’s not a link, don’t make it blue

Form on the home page:

  • Missing red * that indicate mandatory fields
  • I wasn’t required to enter my company name, a bit strange for a
  • business centric site

Registration, first page:

  • All mandatory fields should have a red * that’s placed to the right of the field label. For example: Name*
  • Asking for birth of date, why? give a reason or remove if not needed
  • “Mingling topics and interests” – what does it mean?
  • Asking for interest, why?  give a reason or remove if not needed
  • Capcha word was very hard to read, consider using an easier one
  • I was unable to generate a new image for the captcha word
  • Terms and conditions and privacy policy should open in a smaller window with no navigation

Registration, second page:

  • Titles on top should be on the left, and should be much bigger
  • Status: what does it mean? help icon is empty
  • Fields should not be gray unless they are not editable (grayed out).
  • Better make it black.
  • Sub category: probably should also be a drop down
  • Some fields are now mandatory, but before they were not
  • Website field: what format are you expecting me to enter?
  • Exp. – What does it mean? Use full word
  • Contact – what does it mean? Better change it to “Phone Number”
  • Phone and fax fields: should look like either completely open (one text box) or 3 fields (3,3,4 chars wide).
  • Asking me for interest again, on “products and services” page.

Third page of registration:

  • Image title should have a red * to indicate mandatory field
  • + image looks clickable
  • Color of keywords text should be black, not blue
  • Attachment folder, what is it? I wasn’t sure what I had to do
  • Many update buttons, either consolidate them, or have a separate page for each section.
  • It’s hard to see which fields I missed, because there is no indication.
  • The keywords I entered were gone once I updated my form, or maybe when there was a problem with the form.
  • Calendar: you can use a different technology that is not a pop up.
  • Fourth page (friend invitation)
  • Skip to finish: doesn’t look like a link.
  • The email feature has two features in one page, better consolidate or have them as 2 different pages.

Activation:

  • It would be better to have the login are right there after I activate it

What to do next:

  1. Meet with your designers/developers and discuss the findings
  2. Decide which are the most important items to fix
  3. Start fixing all the easy items (colored green), then the medium (blue) and then the difficult (orange).
